Final Exam

 Answer the following questions in approximately 750 words each, typed, double-spaced, etc. Submit via email (only in a .doc or .docx file) by 11:59 pm Dec. 12th

1.  What were the rules governing the Gestapo’s “enhanced interrogation”?  Are they similar to those Krauthammer proposes?  What were the findings of the Norwegian war crimes trials of 1948?   (Use  “Verschärfte Vernehmung” and “How The Nazis Defended ‘Enhanced Interrogation‘” in your answer.)

2. In 1998, Congress passed legislation declaring that it is

“The policy of the United States not to expel, extradite, or otherwise effect the involuntary return of any person to a country in which there are substantial grounds for believing the person would be in danger of being subjected to torture, regardless of whether the person is physically present in the United States.”

How and why does the Extraordinary Rendition program avoid this prohibition?  Are there good rules in place to make sure terrible mistakes are not made? Use Mayer “Outsourcing Torture” in your answer.

3. Regarding Abu Ghraib, “how far up does the responsibility go?” What did Gen. Taguba find? Use Seymour Hersh’s Torture at Abu Ghraib and Chain of Command in your answer.
